Day 11 – April 21

News Flash!! Not all tourists are the same. Some don’t want to spend all their time dashing from one place of interest to another, view-finder glued to the eye. Some of us like to luxuriate in the extravagance of many of the hotels in which they stay. Even those which lack some of the mod cons are still welcomed by some weary traveller. Electricity, something we take for granted, is in Myanmar a luxury for many of the people. No electricity for some; restricted hours for others; and no restrictions for others. In areas where there are restrictions and tourists many businesses have their own generator. Such is the case at The Kandawgyi Hill Resort in Pyin OO Lwin but there are restrictions on the its use. After dinner last night I went to bed, hooked up to my CPAP machine and went straight to sleep. At 2am I was awakened by my machine switching off and the silence of the fan. The generator stayed quiet until 6.30am and I stayed awake, serenaded by the roosters. Consequently this morning everyone trooped out to see the sights while Helen stayed at the hotel catching up on her sleep. When the generator was switched on I slept. While I waited I read until it was too dark, then I lit the two candles and caught up on my diary. Mi Mi spoke to the Resort Manager today and asked if it was possible to leave the generator on during the night. His answer was in the positive so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Driving to our restaurant tonight it was easy to make out the haves and the have nots. One group sat in the dark while the other had their places lit up like a Christmas tree. Mi Mi’s sister and mother travelled to Pyin Oo Lwin to escape the heat in Mandalay but as there is no electricity they will return to Mandalay in a couple of days. Tourists like us are well catered for and that’s for sure. |
