Day 5 – April 15

The trip back to Yangon was rather slow. The water throwers were out in large numbers. The roads and the people were, once again, drenched. But that didn't matter. We had the day to get back to Yangon so we took our time.

Lunch was a bit of a scary experience. Travellers are careful about where and what they eat and our eating spot definitely did not come up to scratch. Having said that, I'm pleased to say I rather enjoyed the experience and felt no after effects. The food Moe ordered for us was mainly vegetables and rice as they needed to be recooked. We didn't try anything just precooked as that would have been asking for trouble. The people were very friendly and made us feel welcome. I wouldn't be surprised if we were the first non-locals to eat there!

Moe and I relaxing over a beer while we wait for our meal.

Arriving back at The Strand  was great. We were welcomed like old friends and made to feel like part of the hotel's family. Having the same rooms added to the feeling of coming home.

In the evening we met up with the rest of the tour group for pre-dinner drinks. They were full of talk about their day, driving around Yangon in an open truck with barrels of water and hoses. From what I gathered, they gave as good as they got in the watering department. Dinner, a welcome dinner, was at the hotel. A good night was had by all, exchanging our individual experiences since leaving Australia and making plans for tomorrow.
